Switzerland defeated hosts Paraguay 7-6 after extra-time to book their place in the knockout stage while simultaneously ending Paraguay’s hopes of moving on past the group stage.
The Swiss jumped out into a 4-1 lead only for Paraguay to storm back into the match and force the tournament’s first extra-time, bringing it to 5-5 after regulation.
Dejan Stankovic converted two spot kicks in extra-time to ultimately silence the full Los Pynandi Stadium and ensure the Swiss side’s journey at Paraguay will go on past the group stage, while Paraguay's journey will end after their next match against the USA.
